Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
