Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
