The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
