He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
