The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
