Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
