At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them – and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 AND THE DWELLERS of the wooded dales [of Madyan, too,] were inveterate evildoers, 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
