Light (Al-Noor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have revealed and which We have made obligatory; We have sent down clear revelations in it, so that you may take heed. 1 (As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement. 2 The adulterer marries not but an adulteress or a Mushrikah and the adulteress none marries her except an adulterer or a Muskrik [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely he is either an adulterer, or a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater, etc.) And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater) or an adulterer, then she is either a prostitute or a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan, or idolatress, etc.)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers (of Islamic Monotheism). 3 And as for those who accuse chaste women [of adultery,] and then are unable to produce four witnesses [in support of their accusation,] flog them with eighty stripes and ever after refuse to accept from them any testimony - since it is they, they that are truly depraved! 4 except those who repent and reform themselves; Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. 5 One who accuses his wife and has no witnesses except himself shall swear four times by God that his charge is true, 6 And the fifth (testimony) (should be) the invoking of the Curse of Allah on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her). 7 (As for the woman), it shall avert the punishment from her if she swears four times by Allah that the man is false (in his charge) 8 Her fifth oath being that the curse of God be on her if her husband should be speaking the truth. 9 If it were not for the bounty of Allah to you and His Mercy, and that Allah turns, and is the Wise, 10
