Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,- 10 The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)? 11 He said: "My Lord! Verily, I fear that they will belie me, 12 And my breast straiteneth, and my tongue moveth not quickly: so send for Harun. 13 besides, they accuse me of a crime, and I fear that they may put me to death." 14 God said, "Indeed not; go both of you with Our signs, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]. 15 So go ye twain unto Fir'awn and say: verily we are the apostles of the Lord of the Worlds, 16 that you let the Children of Israel go with us.'" 17 [Pharaoh] said, "Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life? 18 You spent many years of your life among us and then you committed that deed of yours. You are very ungrateful indeed." 19 He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray. 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers. 21 Now this is the favour that you tauntingly remind me of: that you enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Said Pharaoh: "And what [and who] is that 'Sustainer of all the worlds'?" 23 'He' (Moses) replied: 'is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you believe' 24 'Do you not hear' said he (Pharaoh) to those around him. 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 Pharaoh said, "This messenger who has been sent to you is surely possessed!" 27 Moses continued: "(He is) the Lord of the east and the west, and all between them. If you only had any understanding!" 28 [Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned." 29 (Moses) said: "Even though I have brought to you something convincing?" 30 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!" 31 Thereupon [Moses] threw down his staff - and lo! it was a serpent, plainly visible; 32 And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders! 33
