The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
