The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
