Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 Surely, it is foretold in the ancient scriptures. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 Do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 Did you consider that if We were to let them enjoy life for many years 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 All that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them. 207 We never destroyed any habitation but that it had warners 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 And warn your nearest relations, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Indeed only He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 The righteously striving believers among them who remember God very often and use their talent to seek help after they have been wronged are the exceptional. The unjust will soon know how terrible their end will be. 227
