The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
