۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Are we then not to die 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They found their father going astray 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
