۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
