۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Are we not then to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
