THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. 49 But whenever We removed the suffering from them, lo! they would break their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 So he made his people unsteady, and they obeyed him; surely they were an ungodly people. 54 But when they continued to challenge Us, We inflicted Our retribution on them, and drowned them all: 55 And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples. 56
