Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
