The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
