Is it not a lesson for the successors of the past generations that had We wanted, We could have punished them for their sins, sealed their hearts and deprived them of hearing? 100 Those cities - We relate to you, [O Muhammad], some of their news. And certainly did their messengers come to them with clear proofs, but they were not to believe in that which they had denied before. Thus does Allah seal over the hearts of the disbelievers. 101 We found no (loyalty to any) covenant in most of them. Nay, most of them We found wrong-doers. 102 After those We sent forth Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles, but they dealt with Our signs unjustly. Observe, then, what happened to the mischief-makers. 103 And Moses said: 'O Pharaoh! I am a Messenger from the Lord of the universe. 104 [Who is] obligated not to say about Allah except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send with me the Children of Israel." 105 He answered: 'If you have come with a sign, show it to us if you are of the truthful' 106 Thereupon Moses threw his rod, and suddenly it was a veritable serpent. 107 And he drew forth his hand, and behold, it looked white to those who beheld it. 108
