and We delivered the Children of Israel from the humbling chastisement, 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds. 32 And We vouchsafed unto them signs wherein was a manifest favour. 33 Verily these! they say: 34 “There is nothing except our dying just once, and we will not be raised.” 35 Bring us our fathers, if what you say is true' 36 Are they better, or the people of Tubba? And those who were before them? We destroyed them; they were indeed criminals. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play, 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive, 41 Apart from those to whom God is kind. He is all-mighty and all-merciful. 42
