The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
