A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
