The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
