Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
