And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
