The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
