Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
