The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation. 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day to those who belied it, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 then they shall enter the Fire of Hell, 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 A written record, 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 and in their faces you shall know the radiance of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
