The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
