Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
