The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
