The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
