Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 and tenderness from Us and purity, and he was cautious; 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
