'This', said he (Pharaoh) to his Council, 'is a cunning sorcerer 34 Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye? 35 They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a stated time and place on an appointed day. 38 And it was said to the people: Will you gather together? 39 (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners. 40 "When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?" 41 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed' 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners". 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 Then the magicians fell prostrating in adoration, 46 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds: 47 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 48 [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all." 49 'There is no harm' they replied, 'for surely to our Lord we are turning. 50 "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]." 51
