And so the two went on their way, till [they reached the seashore; and] when they disembarked from the boat [that had ferried them across,] the sage made a hole in it - [whereupon Moses] exclaimed: "Hast thou made a hole in it in order to drown the people who may be [travelling] in it? Indeed, thou hast done a grievous thing!" 71 Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 72 Moses said, "Please, forgive my forgetfulness. Do not oblige me with what is difficult for me to endure." 73 and so they departed. Thereafter they met a boy and he killed him. He (Moses) exclaimed: 'What, have you killed a pure soul and it was not done (in retaliation) for a soul? you have done a terrible thing' 74 ۞ The man said, "Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have any patience with me?" 75 He said, 'If I question thee on anything after this, then keep me company no more; thou hast already experienced excuse sufficient on my part.' 76 Then they both proceeded, till, when they came to the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to entertain them. Then they found therein a wall about to collapse and he (Khidr) set it up straight. [Musa (Moses)] said: If you had wished, surely, you could have taken wages for it!" 77 He replied, "This is where we should depart from one another. I shall give an explanation to you for all that I have done for which you could not remain patient. 78 "As for the ship, it belonged to Masakin (poor people) working in the sea. So I wished to make a defective damage in it, as there was a king after them who seized every ship by force. 79 And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief. 80 "So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was a righteous man; so your Lord desired that they should attain their maturity and take out their treasure, a mercy from your Lord, and I did not do it of my own accord. This is the significance of that with which you could not have patience. 82
