And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 “They are all my enemies, except the Lord Of The Creation.” 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
