Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the luminious Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
