The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
