The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
