The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
