NAY, but consider the moon! 32 By the receding night 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 running away from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
