Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
