Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
