Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
