The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
