The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
God the Almighty always says the truth.
