The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
