۞ And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
