۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Are we then not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
